Overview
This article will help give you a complete overview of our Phone Number Validation service, coupled with best practices and recommendations. Today, our Phone Number Validation service, is available for:
Shopify / Shopify Plus
Manual Usage (single & bulk tools)
API
We will be adding support for additional platforms later this year.
Get Started
To begin using Phone Number Validation alongside our address verification service, the first step is to enable the Phone Number Validation feature by going to:
Order Automations > Phone Validation
Click the slider to Enable, then click Save
Once the service is enabled, Address Guard will begin to automate the validation process against all of your customer orders. If an issue is detected, we will prompt the customer based on the prompt you have enabled for your account (Before Checkout or After Checkout).
Number Options
If you only require mobile phone numbers with a customer's order, we give you the ability to set this rule and prompt them if a non-mobile number is detected.
To set this up, click the checkbox below the enable button and click Save.
Prompt Text Customization
Within the same page (Order Automations > Phone Number Validation), we also allow you to customize the text that is shown to a customer when an issue is detected. There are two options available:
Phone Number Invalid - This validation response is shown when the phone number response was invalid.
Phone Number is not a mobile number - This validation response is shown when the phone number type is reported to not be a mobile number. Instead the type is indicated to be a landline, voip, prepaid or is unidentified. This customization works together with the Number Option setting indicated above, which can prevent non-mobile numbers from being entered with the customer's order.
Country Phone Rules
Beyond our core Phone Validation service, we also give you the ability to set specific formatting rules on a per country basis. If the customer enters in a phone number format that does not match their selected country, and a rule is enabled, then a custom warning message will appear.
Be sure to review our Country Formatting Rules guide to learn more.
Billing
Phone Number Validation is an optional service, which charges $0.03 per phone number validation. With Address Guard, you are only charged 1 time per order, regardless of the number of phone number changes a customer makes.
A breakdown of your billing for both shipping address, email validation or phone number validation can be seen by going to: General Settings > Billing
Next Steps
Now that you have a complete understanding of our Email Validation service, we recommend to check the next few articles to see how the service will appear to your customers and within your Shopify orders page.
