Overview

This article is meant for Shopify Plus brands who are utilizing our Before Checkout (checkout extensions) feature for their address validation service, and would like to utilize Email Validation as well.

Before getting started, please ensure you've enabled Email Validation by going to: Order Automations > Email Validation

Get Started

When a customer is prompted during checkout, our standard checkout extension will appear. Within the extension, we will also display the customer's email address and relevant response information so the customer can make an update.

There are two types of possible issues that can be displayed:

  • Email Invalid - This validation response is shown when the email address could not be verified, and the customer is being asked to update or confirm.

  • Email Suggestion - This validation response is shown when a common typo for a large email provider exists, and Address Guard is suggesting a change (ex: gnail > gmail). Once the customer accepts the suggestion, the email address is updated in the system.

The text for these two options can be customized by going to: Order Automations > Email Validation), and scrolling down to the bottom.

Example with Email Suggestion

In this example, the customer made a typo with the email domain and Address Guard offered a suggestion to ensure the email address was valid. The customer is shown the suggestion, and can accept changes or use the email as entered.

Note: If the customer clicks "use email as entered", and it's still considered an invalid email, we will attach Tags to the Shopify order so that your team is aware. Tags can be enabled by going to: Rules & Tags > Order Tags > Email Validation Tags

Translations

Our email validation service also allows the text to be customized with our translations feature, supporting 9 total languages. The checkout extension will show the enabled translated text based on the primary language of the customer's browser.

To begin customizing the translated text, go to:

  • Display > Translations

  • Scroll down to the "Email Validation" section and make your changes

  • Once finished, click Save
